Style for Social Good | Sseko Designs

One of my new year's resolutions for 2017 was to really focus on making sustainable style choices. I'll be posting a full recap of my year next month, but today, I'm excited to share a little about one of the brands I've discovered!

Sseko Designs focuses on providing work to women in Uganda, enabling them to earn money to go toward a college education. Sseko products are all made in Africa and create jobs, empower artisans and help end the cycle of poverty by building healthy communities and economies.

To date, we've enabled 87 women to continue on to university. We currently employ 50 women in Uganda from all walks of life. We believe that every woman has a dream. When she is given the opportunity to pursue those dreams, we are collectively walking towards a brighter and more just and beautiful world.

Sseko also runs a Fellows Program, providing the resources for women across the U.S. to sell Sseko and launch their own social enterprises. Every Fellow is paired one-to-one with a woman in Uganda, and her sales directly contribute to earning an additional scholarship for her Sole Sister. Through the program, in 2016, the Fellows were able to triple the number of scholarships the company provided to the university-bound women.

Sseko designs and sources their ethically made products from East Africa.

The company has a great story and mission, something I can really get behind. And their products are beautiful and well-priced.

Some of the items I've been needing to replace in my closet are my pairs of sandals (thanks to a cat who put bite marks in most of my older pairs), so when I decided to look for a new pair for our upcoming vacation, I checked out Sseko's site.

I've been interested in a pair of wrap sandals for a little while now, so I was instantly drawn to this champagne gold pair. They're neutral enough to go with most of my closet, but interesting enough to not be plain. Sseko does only come in whole sizes, but I followed the recommended sizing guidelines on the product page For size reference, I usually wear a US 7.5, and Sseko's size 7 sandals fit me perfectly.

I love these sandals for the ankle strap and the thicker sole. It feels great to have a little bit of support, compared to my older sandals that have a really thin sole.

Yes, it's November, but let's face it, I'll probably be wearing these sandals on Christmas anyway, with the way our seasons are going. However, if you don't live in the South and are looking for other non-summery items, potentially as gifts, Sseko has you covered with a lot of other beautiful options.

For women, there are apparel options, including gorgeous duster shawls and infinity scarves. There are tons of sandal options, including interchangeable ribbon sandals, allowing you to customize your look, and there are even baby sandals for the little ones in your life.

Shop around the ethical jewelry section, or browse the bag collection.

Sseko recently unveiled the men's collection, which is perfect for holiday timing. You can shop men's apparel, footwear, leather accessories, and bags.

What I love is that the prices are not overwhelming. There are times I find a great brand that I'm all about supporting, until I see that it's just too far out of my budget. It's a tough balance, but with Sseko, I can support a fair-minded company without spending more than I'm comfortable with.

Sseko was kind enough to set me up as an affiliate, enabling me to help promote their brand and earn a little myself. #holidaycash #woohoo!

So as you begin your holiday shopping, look toward brands that do good for those in the world.
