Green Business Spotlight | EarthHero

As I've written about before, shopping sustainably online can be a little overwhelming. But when there are websites that serve as eco-friendly marketplaces, it makes shopping a LOT easier.

EarthHero is one such great marketplace, selling everything from clothing to home goods to pet products to beauty and personal care. They're a great place for people just starting out on a zero-waste or sustainable journey, because you can pick up all the essentials at once.

EarthHero works with different sustainable brands and carries items that follow strict standards. Each item carried on the site has corresponding icons to tell you exactly how the item is eco-friendly.

So what I did order for my first EarthHero purchase? A pair of shorts and beeswax food wraps, naturally!
I've been following beeswax wraps as an alternative to plastic wrap for awhile, but for some reason, never made the move to purchase my own. I am so excited to start using these wraps, especially as I make it a priority to eat more fruits this year. I picked the assorted size three-pack of wraps, in turquoise, because about half of everything I own is turquoise.

What sustainability features do these wraps cover?

I'd seen a sponsored Instagram post for Tentree shorts made of Tencel, and was so excited to learn that they're available at EarthHero, and immediately added a pair to my cart. I've owned another pair of shorts made of Tencel for a few years, and they continue to be extremely comfortable.

Tencel is a sustainable material created from the eucalyptus plant, and it is so, so comfortable. I already know I'm going to be living in these shorts this spring and summer (hello Festival International!)

In addition to the eco-friendly fabric, Tentree plants 10 trees for every product they sell. And yes, it took me more than a week to get that Tentree = 10 trees! Each item comes with a code where you can go online and track your planted trees. I love this extra bit of transparency, and can't wait to go check on my 10 trees!

Beyond the products they carry, EarthHero works to reuse and repurpose cardboard boxes for shipping. My shorts and bee wraps came in an efficient paper-padded envelope. The shorts were not wrapped in plastic, and the bee wraps are packaged in cardboard as well. I always appreciate receiving an order that isn't extra wasteful in the shipping process.
